Recently a start-up in San Francisco has made claims that they can "turn water into wine in 15 minutes", creating a synthetic wine without grapes - simply by combining synthetic flavour and aroma compounds with ethanol and water.
New Scientist dove into this topic to see if it was truly possible, and turned up a surprising story (LINK).
This new "wine" may claim to mimic fine vintages, but it has a long way to go before it attempts to knock traditional wine from it's long held position in society.
