About

Urban Vintner (known as Hobby Brews at its inception) was started by Terry Davies in 1985, and was one of BC's first on-premise brewing & wine making stores. That business grew quite quickly and was eventually sold to one of the long-time original customers, Bill Manahan, in 1992.

Shortly thereafter Bill's Hobby Brews relocated from it's original location on 92nd and Scott Road, to it's current storefront in the Kennedy Heights Shopping Centre at Scott and Nordel. With this move came a name change to Urban Vintner.

After more than 17 successful years running the shop, the business was sold once again, to it's current owner, Trevor Schofield, in May of 2010.

In January 2015 we had the unlikely and unfortunate occurrence of having a car crash through the front of the store (after being hit in a separate accident on Scott Road). Fortunately nobody was injured and the damage to the store was mostly cosmetic. It did, however, force my ideas of renovating to the forefront. I partnered with Winexpert to become one of their Signature Stores, and completed a full update of the store a few months later.

Urban Vintner continues to grow every year, and I hope to continue serving all of Surrey / North Delta's wine needs for many more years to come!
